Fishing in the Croton River There are so many different types of fish in the river that you don't know what you might be reeling in. In the river there are the following fish:
The mouth of the river is where you will catch the salt water species all the way up to the old Nico Inn. but all of the freshwater fish have also been caught here. From the rapids above Nico Inn to the Croton Dam is some of the finest Trout waters in Westchester. These areas of the River are stocked yearly with fingerling trout. Most fishing is done from shore or in waders. But recently Kayak fishing has been seen a lot. Kayaks are easy to get around the river in and offer anglers a chance to fish areas of the river that are not accessible to other than by a tough hike down a steep path. The Striped Bass below was caught by James Drohan on 10/24/2004 just outside the train trestle. It was taken on a jointed Rapala.
