Kayaking, Canoeing and Power Boating  in the Croton River

Kayaking and Canoeing in the Croton River is a great place to experience a host of wildlife and fishing. The salt water marshes and the shallows are a great place to see a host of birds and also possibly float over some fish. 8/22/2004 I kayaked right over a large carp which did not even seem bothered by the boat.

Power Boating on the river can be done but it should only be done at high tide only as it can and will be very shallow in the river when the tide is out. Once you use the motor to get past Nico Inn it is a gentle drift down the river and you probably wont have to use the motor at all just the oars. For power boats I would stick with Aluminum boats only as it does get shallow at low tide and you would not want to ruin a fiberglass hull.

One Regular and a new face to the river float past on the way back down the river. This is how you get hooked! The young lady in the front is experiencing her first trip up the river. By the look on her face she will be back!

**** There is a power boating speed restriction on the Croton River it is maximum speed of 5 MPH and NO JET SKI's. If you would like to find out more about this you can check with the Village of Croton about there ordinance on this.****
